John Wick Presents: Curse of the Yellow Sign

Recently released in PDF format is a new scenario from a new Call of Cthulhu licensee. John Wick Presents: Curse of the Yellow Sign, Act I: Digging for a Dead God.

John Wick's credentials in the game world include contributions to Legend of the Five Rings, 7th Sea, the self-published Orkworld and being a co-founder of the Wicked Dead Brewing Company.

Curse of the Yellow Sign, Act I: Digging for a Dead God is a Classic-era Call of Cthulhu scenario set just before World War II in the African jungle where you play German Soldiers (yes, the given pre-generated characters are Nazis) who encounter something terrible and suffer the consequences.

The scenario is already gathering a reputation for being one of the 'darker' Call of Cthulhu storylines. (As the title infers, this is one of a planned set of scenarios and no prizes for guessing which Mythos entity it involves...) A six page PDF preview sample is available for download. (12 MB, opens in new window)

The print edition should be available fairly shortly, and there's a thread about it in the YSDC forums: Have you seen the "Curse of the Yellow Sign"?.

Necronomicons - Treadwell's Lecture by Dan Harms

Following in the footsteps of Justin Woodman, Dan Harms gave a talk at Treadwell's bookshop in London at the end of May entitled: "Necronomicons: The Scariest Book in the World". Courtesy of GBSteve we have a recording of the talk to share on YSDC.

Besides being a Yoggie regular, Dan is perhaps best known for publications such as The Necronomicon Files and of course The Cthulhu Mythos Encyclopedia. If you want to know more about the various histories of books purporting to be the dread Necronomicon, then listen on!

Thanks again to Dan, Treadwell's and GBSteve for making this recording available.

YSDC Desktop Wallpapers II: 'HPL Tales from the Table'

As a celebration of the fact that our 10th Anniversary DVD won a UK Games Expo Award recently, I thought I'd produce a couple of desktop wallpaper pictures (taken from the cover) for any who want them. (See also our first set back in 2005.)

The first image is the top half of the DVD cover (as seen on the left), brilliantly rendered by Eric M. Smith and featuring "Col. Goodenough" (played by Fin) in a very tense moment.

The second image features a wonderful depiction of "The Bradford Players" done in the characteristic Unspeakabale Vault of Doom style of Francois Launet ("Goomi").

Due to the format of the images they're slightly different sizes, but your computer should be able to stretch/compress them as necessary without too much trouble.

Do feel free to check out the artists' web sites for more examples of their impressive art and enjoy!

The Return of Delta Green: PX Poker Night

Pagan Publishing have re-released the scenario PX Poker Night for Delta Green as a free PDF download.

Pagan have made some changes since the last time PX Poker Night was available as a PDF, including the removal of the d20 Call of Cthulhu stats and rules and their replacement with Chaosium's BRP rules set. It has now also been laid out in the standard Delta Green publication format, including maps, columned pages and cover art. Character sheets for all the pre-generated characters in the scenario are included along with a blank character sheet for those who wish to create new characters for this or any other Delta Green game.

Read more about it in Pagan's forum on YSDC, in: Delta Green PX Poker Night returns... for Free!

'Lovecraftian Tales from the Table' Wins UK Games Expo Award

Our 10th Anniversary DVD, Lovecraftian Tales from the Table has won a UK Games Expo Award under the "Best Roleplaying Game" [product] category!

Olde Yoggie had a table at the Expo, offering various arcane baubles from the attic of Innsmouth House, and we had a jolly old time talking to fellow site members (and potential new ones). Thanks also to all those who volunteered to help out on the stall!

Towards the end of the weekend we were informed that the YSDC DVD had won its category much to everyone's surprise and delight! A big thank you to everyone involved and to everyone who voted for it.

Don't have the DVD? Why not read what people have said about it, and then pick up a copy from Innsmouth House? :)

'Lovecraft is Missing' Book 3: Whispers of Their Secrets

Wednesday 27th May sees the start of Lovecraft is Missing Book 3: Whispers of Their Secrets. Lovecraft is Missing is a web comic by Larry Latham that's got a fairly long history behind it (first conceived as a CD-ROM game, then as a potential animated series and finally realised as an online comic).

The comic first started back in September 2008 and is designed to be released in six 24 page series (or "Books"), and updated every Wednesday and Friday. A well illustrated and entertaining read, with lines such as:

"...Is this... where you tell... me... not to be afraid?"

Heavens no. That would be very bad advice."

Check it out at: www.lovecraftismissing.com and chat about it in the Yoggie forums.
