News: A Benefit for Yog-Sothoth: A Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion
Posted on Thursday, January 18, 2007 @ 21:58:48 GMT
Topic: Editorials
EditorialsAn ingenius plot engineered by WinstonP (Bret Kramer), here's what he has to say:

Yog-Sothoth.com is seeking submissions for a new Call of Cthulhu MULA Monograph entitled A Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion, the purpose being two-fold: 1) To help Keepers planning to run Masks of Nyarlathotep and 2) To support Yog-Sothoth.com.

Considering the numerous threads containing excellent advice and ideas for Masks that have been posted over the years, I think we can put together a high-quality product.

Read on to see what we are looking for, and how to be involved:

  • Keeper's advice: How to organize the campaign, introduce new investigators, deal with a total party kill, suggestions for handling specific situations (the meeting in the Bent Pyramid for example), and Keeper aids.
  • Historical and geographical information: Expanded location information, transportation options, maps, or logistical considerations (customs restrictions on firearms anyone?)
  • Ideas for running Masks in other eras (Gaslight, Modern, Dark Ages, others?)
  • Encounters: Encounters and red herrings for the various locales.
  • About Jackson Elias: Introducing him into the game and making him someone whose death can motivate investigators to risk life and limb.
  • One last thing: Perhaps in this age of Photoshopping, we might finally get Elias' picture of the Dark Mistress? :)

  • All contributors will receive a copy of the finished monograph and retain the rights to their individual contributions. In turn, the normal monograph payment (of $250) will go to Yog-Sothoth.com to help fund Olde Yoggie.

All submissions and questions should be made to Bret Kramer (winstonp@gmail.com) with the word "Masks" in the subject line. MS Word formatted documents (.doc, .rtf.) are preferable. All submissions should be received by Friday, 1st June, 2007.

Since its release in 1984, Masks of Nyarlathotep has remained one of the landmarks of the Call of Cthulhu game. Countless Keepers and Investigators have followed Jackson Elias' path into darkness and now it's your chance to add to the legend....

An ageless classic, and an opportunity
to become a part of it.

Note: Bret is also maintaining a forum thread about the Masks Companion Project.

I'd really love to participate, but....I've never run, read or played Masks. I keep hoping one of my friends will run it and I'll get to play it.

I'm about to start running it tonight actually - although I am not sure how much help I'll be able to be in this - it certainly is interesting though. H

Will this be something that we can provide donations for, or is it going to be for sale, or is it going to be free? (Personally, my conscience would rest a little better if we could donate via PayPal for this--I love free stuff, but you guys put a TON of work into it and deserve rewards.)
