 | | News: Secret Shoggoth IV Monday, November 02, 2009 @ 20:26:39 GMT by PoC (324 reads) | How time flies. It hardly seems any time at all since CAThompson started "Secret Shoggoth" here on Olde Yoggie, but here we are with Secret Shoggoth IV!
Secret Shoggoth is YSDC's festive season mystery gift exchange and if previous years' Secret Shoggoth events are anything to go by, it should prove both rewarding and very entertaining. For further details, see the Secret Shoggoth IV thread in the forums.
There's a bunch of people signed up already (me included) and unconfirmed rumours are that the good old H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society may also be participating again. If you haven't done it before, or want to do it again, here's your chance. It's a great way to give and receive in the most tentacular fashion - and most of all, it's a lot of fun!

News: A Peculiar Pentad from Super Genius Games Monday, November 02, 2009 @ 20:07:15 GMT by PoC (341 reads) | Super Genius Games have released A Peculiar Pentad, a supplement for Call of Cthulhu that offers "five shops or locations that every investigator may want, or need" from the rare book shop to the strangely efficient repair shop, a private social club and more.
A Peculiar Pentad features five contributors including Jeff Grubb, Gwendolyn F.M. Kestrel, Jeff Quick, John D. Rateliff, and Thomas M. Reid (with art by Aaron Acevedo) and looks to be something a little different. Once again, the initial release is in PDF format (sample available), with print to follow.

News: A Taste of 'Tatters' (Audio Game) Wednesday, October 28, 2009 @ 20:16:30 GMT by PoC (441 reads) | With the Bradford Players concluding their idiosyncratic journey through Walker in the Wastes there was only the briefest of respites before plunging head (or some other body part) first into Tim Wiseman's Tatters of the King.
The Tatters of the King Audio Game sees Neil take up the Keeper's chair and introduces a new player to the group (Sophie). Starting in London in 1928, strange happenings are afoot and the party receive a letter requesting the help of an eminent Alienist…
Also featuring the return of "The Silver Fox" (Betty Sunderland, from HotOE)! Yoggie Patrons can access more episodes now. The rest of the public release will continue in the New Year.

News: 'Queensguard': Steampunk Cthulhu Monograph from Chaosium Friday, October 23, 2009 @ 23:11:59 GMT by PoC (454 reads) | Chaosium have released Queensguard, a steampunk Call of Cthulhu MULA monograph by Jeffrey Rissman.
Queensguard bills itself as a short CoC campaign set in an alternate version of America in which steam technology and magic are woven into the fabric of society. Welcome to the Kingdom of America…
Definitely sounds like something a little different for Call of Cthulhu, which is an advantage that Chaosium's MULA monograph line can explore.

News: Reality Blurs Releases 'Realms of Cthulhu' (SW/CoC) Tuesday, October 20, 2009 @ 22:51:53 GMT by PoC (560 reads) | First mentioned back in July 2008, Reality Blurs has now published Realms of Cthulhu by Sean Preston, a Savage Worlds adaptation of Call of Cthulhu.
Savage Worlds has a reputation as a fast free-flowing system that may be particularly suited to Pulp-style play. For those not familiar with this system, the Explorer's Edition of the rules set (paperback, full colour) is available for only $9.95 (US).
Realms of Cthulhu is a full colour hardback volume and is a supplement for use in conjunction with the Savage Worlds core rule book.
See the YSDC forums for discussion of the new system for Cthulhu and also for a peek at what's inside the book.

News: 'Our Ladies of Sorrow' from Miskatonic River Press Wednesday, October 14, 2009 @ 19:19:04 GMT by PoC (515 reads) | Overcoming the sad loss earlier this year of Keith Herber, Miskatonic River Press have just released Our Ladies of Sorrow by Kevin Ross (with artwork by Jason C. Eckhardt). Our Ladies of Sorrow is a modern day Call of Cthulhu campaign where "investigators encounter The Sorrows -- ancient goddesses of grief, madness, and death who, in their multitude of forms, have preyed on Man since he first began to dream…".
Our Ladies of Sorrow includes three lengthy scenarios, an epilogue scenario, and various appendices and play aids, priced at $34.95 (US).
You can hear an interview with Tom Lynch and Oscar Rios of MRP in Yog Radio #38 where they talk about the campaign (among other things). Tom has also been interviewed on Atomic Array #33 and has a launch promotion whereby the first 20 copies ordered from Miskatonic River Press (using the discount code: atomic) will also receive a free copy of our 10th Anniversary DVD, Lovecraftian Tales from the Table!

News: Cubicle 7 Releases 'Cthulhu Britannica' Wednesday, October 14, 2009 @ 18:08:31 GMT by PoC (594 reads) | Announced back in June, Cubicle 7's Cthulhu Britannica is now available.
Cthulhu Britannica is a compendium of five CoC scenarios set in diverse periods from the Victorian to the far future of England, a number of its authors belonging to the old "Kult of Keepers".
An advert at the back of the book announces Cubicle 7's next planned Call of Cthulhu release: Cthulhu Britannica: Folklore by James 'Grim' Desborough (strange tales and strange places for CoC). No date given - simply noted as "Coming soon"!

News: Five Go Mad in Egypt and Plan 09 from Halloween - New Monographs from Chaosium Monday, October 05, 2009 @ 19:37:17 GMT by PoC (597 reads) | Chaosium's current MULA monograph policy seems to be to quietly slip them out (at least at first), but I did manage to note these on Twitter last week. Five Go Mad in Egypt by Alexander Leithes is a hefty classic era scenario set in the Land of the Pharaohs and the investigation of the legendary "Sphinx Tomb", while Plan 09 from Halloween is Chaosium's annual Halloween scenario anthology (and out in time for the 31st!), derived from the 2009 Chaosium Halloween Adventure Contest. Anticipate a myriad of mythos-inspired horrors and delights!
Both monographs are also available in PDF format. In the case of Five Go Mad in Egypt, the print edition also provides online access to a large number of PDF handout resources.

News: Rough Magicks and Arkham Detective Tales for 'Trail of Cthulhu' Friday, September 11, 2009 @ 20:59:15 GMT by PoC (879 reads) | A lucky few were able to pick them up early at Gen Con Indy this year, but now the latest Trail of Cthulhu supplements are on general release.
Rough Magicks by Ken Hite is the 40 page magic supplement for ToC (the forerunner of which was originally earmarked for the ToC rule book release), while Arkham Detective Tales is a collection of four scenarios (contra title, mostly set in New York), written by Gareth Hanrahan.
There's already news of other forthcoming products for Trail of Cthulhu, so there's plenty to look forward to!

News: David Conyers - Special Guest at Gen Con Australia Friday, September 11, 2009 @ 18:45:42 GMT by PoC (659 reads) | I've just received information that David Conyers is going to be a special guest at this year's Gen Con Australia (18-20 September) where he'll be taking part in a number of gaming and writing seminars, so if you're in the vicinity of Brisbane next week, drop by and say "Hi"!
I wonder if other members of the old Cthulhu Conglomerate will be there…?
