News: Secret Shoggoth IV
Monday, November 02, 2009 @ 20:26:39 GMT by PoC (324 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsHow time flies. It hardly seems any time at all since CAThompson started "Secret Shoggoth" here on Olde Yoggie, but here we are with Secret Shoggoth IV!

Secret Shoggoth is YSDC's festive season mystery gift exchange and if previous years' Secret Shoggoth events are anything to go by, it should prove both rewarding and very entertaining. For further details, see the Secret Shoggoth IV thread in the forums.

There's a bunch of people signed up already (me included) and unconfirmed rumours are that the good old H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society may also be participating again. If you haven't done it before, or want to do it again, here's your chance. It's a great way to give and receive in the most tentacular fashion - and most of all, it's a lot of fun!

Editorials: Special Projects Fundraiser: Lovecraft in Egypt
Sunday, September 20, 2009 @ 16:12:16 GMT by PoC (1907 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsNothing if not unusual. This is a small fundraiser to help towards a rather outré piece of equipment, a digital camera capable of photographing (& filming) directly in 3D. Olde Yoggie already records a significant quantity of audio in 3D (binaural) sound and so taking this to a new dimension - we plan to present future photos (where possible) in 2D and 3D.

So why entitled "Lovecraft in Egypt"? Simply because in November we'll be embarking on a trip to the land of the Pharaohs, and who wouldn't want to see Mummies, tombs & pyramids in 3D? (Perhaps with Petra thrown in too.)

Stereoscopy is something I've long had an interest in (I blame the old ViewMasters) - so for entertainment, new experiences and more "in-depth" virtual travel, read on to see some of the plans and what's being offered in return for help with the fundraiser.

News: David Conyers - Special Guest at Gen Con Australia
Friday, September 11, 2009 @ 18:45:42 GMT by PoC (659 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsI've just received information that David Conyers is going to be a special guest at this year's Gen Con Australia (18-20 September) where he'll be taking part in a number of gaming and writing seminars, so if you're in the vicinity of Brisbane next week, drop by and say "Hi"!

I wonder if other members of the old Cthulhu Conglomerate will be there…?

Editorials: YSDC Desktop Wallpapers II: 'HPL Tales from the Table'
Wednesday, June 17, 2009 @ 20:19:47 GMT by PoC (1794 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsAs a celebration of the fact that our 10th Anniversary DVD won a UK Games Expo Award recently, I thought I'd produce a couple of desktop wallpaper pictures (taken from the cover) for any who want them. (See also our first set back in 2005.)

The first image is the top half of the DVD cover (as seen on the left), brilliantly rendered by Eric M. Smith and featuring "Col. Goodenough" (played by Fin) in a very tense moment.

The second image features a wonderful depiction of "The Bradford Players" done in the characteristic Unspeakabale Vault of Doom style of Francois Launet ("Goomi").

Due to the format of the images they're slightly different sizes, but your computer should be able to stretch/compress them as necessary without too much trouble.

Do feel free to check out the artists' web sites for more examples of their impressive art and enjoy!

News: Lovecraftian Tales DVD Nominated for UK Games Expo Award
Friday, May 08, 2009 @ 17:51:52 GMT by PoC (997 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsOur 10th Anniversary DVD Lovecraftian Tales from the Table has been nominated for a UK Games Expo Award this year, under the "RPG" category.

Voting for the awards occurs at the UK Games Expo event in Birmingham in the first week of June. A combination of public voting and a panel of judges will select the eventual winner in each category.

We're delighted to have the Yoggie DVD be selected as a nominee. If you're still looking for further information on the disc, here's a few sources: Ogre Cave Christmas Dozen Selection, Pulp Gamer audio review, Unclebear review, Knights of the Dinner Table magazine "Pick of the Month" and the Game Geeks video review.

We'll be at the Expo in June, if you're there, stop by the Yoggie table and say "Hi"!
Note: 11th May: cpt_machine has also done a video review of the DVD on YouTube.

News: Keith 'Doc' Herber Passes Away
Saturday, March 14, 2009 @ 00:47:54 GMT by PoC (3079 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsWe're surprised and saddened to hear of Keith 'Doc' Herber's passing earlier today (Friday 13th March). Tom Lynch of Miskatonic River Press has made an announcement in the MRP forum.

Doc passed away suddenly this morning. We were very fortunate to be able to talk to him recently in Yog Radio #34, having been the author of several seminal Call of Cthulhu supplements including the well respected Lovecraft Country series.

Our condolences go out to Keith's family. He will be missed.
Note: Fundable Fundraiser in memory of Keith 'Doc' Herber. Yog Radio #35 will also be dedicated to Doc.

Interviews: Yog Meet at Dragonmeet 2008 Audio Recording
Tuesday, January 06, 2009 @ 20:41:40 GMT by PoC (1359 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsWhile sadly I couldn't make it to Dragonmeet before Christmas, several site members did and they held a very lively Yog Meet while there. Pookie managed to record it and it's now available for everyone to listen to. It's nice to hear something I'm not actually in (no, really)!

People at the Yog Meet included: DaveL (strangely enough, Dave), Fleabane (Jean), Jorune (Chris), Kadath (Greg) and Pookie (Matthew)

With: Angus Abranson on the PA System (AngusA)

During the Yog Meet, the group talk about...

  • Trail of Cthulhu, including the Stunning Eldritch Tales and forthcoming Shadows over Filmland supplements.
  • Fantasy Grounds II Call of Cthulhu rule set.
  • Beyond the Mountains of Madness and its support materials
  • Secret Shoggoth III
  • Chaosium Licensees - The Golden Age of Cthulhu?
  • Shadows of Cthulhu
  • Kingdom of the Blind MULA
  • Lovecraftian Tales of the Table DVD, post beta, pre-release edition - and just who beta-tested the tattoo...

    Plus many other things!

Yog-Sothoth NewsIt's here, our long-planned 10th anniversary DVD has arrived at Innsmouth House. Lovecraftian Tales from the Table: Horror on the Orient Express & The Masks of Nyarlathotep contains copies of the two Yoggie Call of Cthulhu audio games plus a slew of bonus material in celebration of a decade of Yog-Sothoth.com and over a quarter century of the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game.

We managed to hit our promised December 2008 release date and copies of the disc are now available from the new Yogge Shoppe: Innsmouth House (incorporating Lovecraftiana).

A big thank you to everyone who's been involved (sponsors/patrons, artists, coders, players, interviewees, testers and others), only such a community effort could have caused this disc to become a reality.

Editorials: YSDC DVD: Last Few Hours - Now with added Green Ronin 'Freeport'
    Thursday, October 09, 2008 @ 18:47:13 GMT by PoC (2209 reads)
Yog-Sothoth NewsWith less than 10 hours to go, it's your last chance to get on board for the Lovecraftian Tales from the Table pre-order/fundraiser.

We've done spectacularly well, and the latest news is that Green Ronin have supplied PDF copies of their popular Freeport Trilogy (Five Year Anniversary Edition) and Cults of Freeport publications for inclusion on the disc. Fans of the regarded Freeport series will be aware of its obvious Lovecraftian connections.

A big thank you to Green Ronin and everyone who's pledged so far!
