Films involving Body Horror: the corruption, distortion, twisting, mutilation, or mutation of flesh into grotesque, viscerally repulsive forms, shapes and appearances. Lovecraft probably didn't invent the genre, but seems to have enjoyed his part in popularizing it, with melting, crumbling human flesh, the twisted shapes of half-human hybrids, and so on making appearances in many of his stories. Since the 1980s, it seems that a "Lovecraftian" film is hardly complete without a hefty dose of surreal body horror of some sort....

Trivia: Body Dysmorphia or Body Dysmorphic Disorder is an obsessive preoccupation that some aspect of one's own appearance is severely flawed and warrants exceptional measures to hide or fix it; Cotard Delusion the belief that oneself is dead or does not exist; sometimes coupled with the belief that one is putrefying or missing internal organs; teratophobia is a fear of monsters and deformed people or creatures; dysmorphophobia is a fear of deformity or becoming deformed; assymetriphobia is a fear of assymetrical things; traumatophobia is a fear of injury and mutilation; Apotemnophobia is the fear of amputation and amputees; therioanthropophobia is a fear of shapeshifting; ataxiophobia is a fear of loss of body control; pathophobia is a fear of suffering and disease; dermatosiophobia or dermatophobia or dermatopathophobia is a fear of skin disease; helminthophobia or scoleciphobia is a fear of worms or being infested with worms; parasitophobia is a fear of parasites; entomophobia is a fear of insects; spermatophobia/spermophobia, misophobia/mysophobia, and verminophobia fear of germs, dirt, and dirty animals and things; mycophobia is a fear of mushrooms and fungi; seplophobia is a fear of decaying matter; trichopathophobia, trichophobia, or haetophobia is a fear of hair and phalacrophobia is a fear of becoming bald; odontophobia or dentophobia is a fear of teeth or losing teeth; ommetaphobia is a fear of eyes; genophobia is a fear of sex (eurotophobia or kolpophobia is a fear of female genitalia and phallophobia, medorthophobia, and ithyphallophobia are the fear of male genitalia); phagophobia is the fear of swallowing or of eating or of being eaten or swallowed; trypophobia is proposed word for a fear of an irregular pattern of holes (as in a sponge).
